Companion Animal Behavior Counseling Program
Specialization in Feline Behavior (240 Clock Hours)

Scheduled to Begin in Spring 2004

This online program is designed for the serious student of applied animal behavior who wishes to enter the field of domestic cat behavior counseling or animal shelter and welfare operations. Students will learn to comprehend animal learning processes,applied behavior analysis, ethology, the biology of behavior, and will learn an overview of basic and applied psychopharmacology (only licensed veterinarians may dispense pharmaceuticals),scientific assessment, diagnosis and treatment of normal, but unwanted, and abnormal behavior. A high school diploma or GED is required for enrollment in this program.
On-line theoretical classes are lead by instructors with PhDs and Masters degrees in psychology, biology or animal science or DVM or VMD (veterinary) degrees (except for business and animal welfare courses). 48 Clock Hour online courses can each be completed in 12 weeks from your home computer. A maximum of two courses or 96 Clock Hours may be taken in any given quarter.

This program is pending approval by the Board of the Professional Certification of Association of Companion Animal Behavior Counselors to satisfy their theoretical and practical requirements for professional credentialing as a Feline Behavior Counselor (FBC). Additional ground-based workshops with animals and clients and a distance-based internship with an certified ACABC member may also be required in order to qualify for professional certification. On January 12, 2005 the faculty and administration of the American Institute of Animal Science formed the American College of Applied Science, a Florida Department of Education, Commission for Independent Education licensed degree granting college offering graduate, undergraduate and non-degree programs in the animal sciences.
