Companion Animal Behavior Practicum Program
Specialization in Applied Canine Behavior (96 Clock Hours)

This program builds upon the knowledge base in the Companion Animal Behavior Counseling Certificate Program through two, 6-day regional ground-based "hands-on" workshops lead by Association of Companion Animal Behavior Counselors Board Certified instructors.

Students will gain actual experience in family dog obedience training, instructor skills development and behavior modification for abnormal behavior problem solving with puppies and adult dogs in a curriculum developed by clicker training author, lecturer and psychology professor Deborah Jones, PhD, of Kent State University. Students will teach dog obedience training classes and private lessons with dog owners at an urban dog behavior and training center. In the behavior clinic, students will make rounds and learn to assess, diagnose and treat dogs with behavior problems and abnormal disorders including behavior resulting from fears, phobias, various classifications of aggression, OCDs, and others. Client history taking, factor analysis, interviewing and counseling will also be covered in working situations.
